  • Underwater diving with Manta Ray at Reethi Beach Resort, Maldives

    Manta-on-Call

Being located in the northeast of Baa Atoll - a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - and in close proximity of the famous Hanifaru Bay, regular trips are conducted to this spot to see mantas and even whale sharks during the southwest monsoon. Hanifaru Bay is legally designated as a Marine Protected Area, consequently, there are strict regulations to protect and preserve this amazing wonder of nature to keep mantas congregating in the bay. The best time to see these majestic animals around Baa Atoll is from Mai till November. During this period, planktons get trapped in the funnel-like reef which can cause hundreds of mantas to feed in the bay. Ocean Fanatics enjoys excellent connections to the Rangers overlooking the bay who will swiftly inform them of any sighting. As soon as mantas are spotted, we notify all guests signed up the 'Manta-on-call' program to make their way to the bay and have the biggest chances to sight these magnificent creatures.

    Whale Shark Watching

Similar to the manta's, whale sharks can be seen between May to November with increased sightings having been reported in the months of September and October. The news of such sightings travel quick in the atoll, and whale sharks have been seen even off shore of Reethi Beach, easily accessible by dhoni. We also notify all guests signed up to the 'Manta-on-Call' program about the sighings of whale sharks which increases the possibilities of seeing them. Private trips can be booked, too, tailored to your requirements.

Our Housereef

Our housereef invites for easy-going snorkel adventures as well as diving. It is predestined for diving lessons as part of a course on the east side of the island and features a beautiful 30m deep drop-off wall on the west side of the island. Multiple snorkeling entries are marked with buoys for easy entry and exit.

Seasons

Northeast monsoon from January to April where the so called 'dry season' usually brings blue skies and calm winds with flat seas.

Southwest monsoon from May to November which means generally more chances of cloudy skies, stronger winds and a greater chance of rough seas, depending on various factors such as the moon. However, most of the dramatic rain showers are relatively short lived and soon blown out by themselves.
